I decided to profile a political group on campus, and with the upcoming appearance of Jim Gilchrist, I covered the Conservative Student Union (CSU). In an interview with Jason Aula, president of the CSU, he discussed why he and his group invited Gilchrist to speak at our school. He also talked about future plans for an Illegal Immigrant Day and more protesting against illegal immigration. Aula made it clear that the group's goal is to promote "traditional American values."
Gilchrist is the president and founder of the Minuteman Project, a controversial organization that recruits volunteers who try to prevent immigrants from illegally entering the United States. Members camp out at border areas to spot people crossing and, they claim, tell the authorities about them.

Breast Cancer Awareness Can Help Save Lives
Cal State Long Beach celebrated National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Pink October. One event that took place during this month was a Breast Awareness workshop. I attended this workshop because of my strong family history of breast cancer. I wrote an opinion piece for the Daily Forty-Niner about this event, and about how students on campus seem to have ignored Pink October.
